Answer to Question
A Previous Amendment in the Islamic Personality Book Part III
To: Abu Hanifah At-Tahriri

Question

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

The eminent Ameer - may Allah preserve you -

While we were in a study circle (Halaqa) we came across the following text in the book of The Islamic Personality Volume 3 (As for the consensus of the family of the Prophet (ijma al-itrah), they said: The consensus of the people of the Prophet’s household (Ahlul bayt) is a legitimate evidence, and they meant the people of the House are Ali, Fatima and Wabnahuma (their sons)), under section "The Consensus p. 307 (Arabic edition)- fourth line”. The word Wabnahuma here is wrong, and the correct word is Wabnaihima as it is conjunctive to (معطوفة على) the accusative (منصوب) object of the verb (مفعول به), “Ali”. Jazakum Allah Khairan.

It is also stated in the same page (And they inferred that the people of the house intended in the verse are Ali, Fatima and Wabnaihima (their sons)). I see the pronoun “they are” (هم) here to be: the predicate (خبر) of “anna” (أنّ), and so it is correct to say "Ali, Fatima and Wabnahuma" as they are conjunctive to a nominative (مرفوع) case. This is what appeared to me and Allah knows best.

Answer

Wa Alaikum Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

It seems that the version in your hands from the book The Islamic Personality Volume 3 is an unrevised version, for the place you referred to we’ve changed it on 04/06/2017 CE as part of a series of other amendments and we sent to the regions asking to edit the copies on the various Hizb’s websites.

Here is what we mentioned about the place referred to in our letter of 04/06/2017:

(4 - The book of The Islamic Personality Volume 3, page 302-303 (Arabic edition), the relevant place is page 302, fourth line from the bottom of the page and the last line:

Adjust the red colored places in the following text to match the modified green places in the following text:

“As for the consensus of the family of the Prophet (ijma al-itrah), they said: The consensus of the people of the Prophet’s household (Ahlul bayt) is a legitimate evidence, and they meant the people of the House are Ali, Fatima and Wabnahuma (their sons), and they quoted this as saying:

(إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا)

“Allah intends only to remove from you the impurity [of sin], O people of the [Prophet's] household, and to purify you with [extensive] purification.” [Al-Ahzab: 33]. So, He informed about the removal of impurity of the people of the Prophet’s household by the word only "Innama" and that it is restricted to them. And they inferred that the people of the house intended in the verse are Ali, Fatima and Wabnaihima (their sons), from when this verse was revealed, the Prophet (saw) wrapped them with his cloak and joined them in it. Then, he said:

«اللَّهُمَّ هَؤُلاًءِ أَهْلُ بَيْتِي» “O Allah! These are the people of my house.” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi) End.

The amendment

“As for the consensus of the family of the Prophet (ijma al-itrah), they said: The consensus of the people of the Prophet’s household (Ahlul bayt) is a legitimate evidence, and they meant the people of the House are Ali, Fatima and Wabnaihima (their sons), and they quoted this as saying:

Then, he said:

«اللَّهُمَّ هَؤُلاًءِ أَهْلُ بَيْتِي»

“O Allah! These are the people of my house.” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi)” End.

• The necessary reasons:

“The two mentioned places "Wabnahuma" and "Wabnaihima" are wrong because the first should be accusative case "Wabnaihima" and the second should be nominative case "Wabnahuma"...thus the amendment was required.” End.

This place has been modified in the book of The Islamic Personality Volume 3 on the websites and the text became as it is on the main Hizb page, Page 304-305 of the book of The Islamic Personality Volume 3 as follows:

“As for the consensus of the family of the Prophet (ijma al-itrah), they said: The consensus of the people of the Prophet’s household (Ahlul bayt) is a legitimate evidence, and they meant the people of the House are Ali, Fatima and Wabnaihima (their sons), and they quoted this as saying:

And they inferred that the people of the house intended in the verse are Ali, Fatima and Wabnahuma (their sons), from when this verse was revealed, the Prophet (saw) wrapped them with his cloak and joined them in it. Then, he said:

«اللَّهُمَّ هَؤُلاًءِ أَهْلُ بَيْتِي» "O Allah! These are the people of my house." Narrated by al-Tirmidhi.” End.

In conclusion, I greet you with peace (Salam) and ask Allah to give you goodness (Khair), and thank you for your diligence and interest...

Your brother,
Ata Bin Khalil Abu Al-Rashtah
