The Women and Girls of Gaza are Left Abandoned in Humiliation and Terror

Dominic Allen, who works for the United Nations Population Fund, had an interview that Middle East Eye published on the 15th of March 2024. He stressed that upon ending his time of service in the region, he was “terrified for the women and girls in Gaza. He emphasised that 650,000 females of child-bearing age are under severe threat of hardship and medical needs as there are no services available to cater to the health needs of women. In particular, women who are giving birth without proper care and mature females who have no sanitary products each month. This imposed block on aid and goods coming in and out of Gaza by the Jewish entity has created a devastating impact on the well-being of women that has had life-threatening implications for thousands.

Comment:

The suffering of our Muslim sisters is unbearable by any human standards. We must recognise the great honour and high position of the Muslimah in Islam. Her life, property and dignity are all protected under the Sharia laws and violation of them is among the great haram, as defined by Allah (swt). Ibn Majah narrated that Mu’awiyah ibn Jahimiah al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَرَدْتُ الْجِهَادَ مَعَكَ أَبْتَغِي بِذَلِكَ وَجْهَ اللَّهِ وَالدَّارَ الْآخِرَةَ، قَالَ: «وَيْحَكَ أَحَيَّةٌ أُمُّكَ؟» قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: «ارْجِعْ فَبَرَّهَا»، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ مِنْ الْجَانِبِ الْآخَرِ فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَرَدْتُ الْجِهَادَ مَعَكَ أَبْتَغِي بِذَلِكَ وَجْهَ اللَّهِ وَالدَّارَ الْآخِرَةَ، قَالَ: «وَيْحَكَ، أَحَيَّةٌ أُمُّكَ؟» قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: «فَارْجِعْ إِلَيْهَا فَبَرَّهَا»، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ مِنْ أَمَامِهِ فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَرَدْتُ الْجِهَادَ مَعَكَ أَبْتَغِي بِذَلِكَ وَجْهَ اللَّهِ وَالدَّارَ الْآخِرَةَ، قَالَ: «وَيْحَكَ، أَحَيَّةٌ أُمُّكَ؟» قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: «وَيْحَكَ، الْزَمْ رِجْلَهَا فَثَمَّ الْجَنَّةُ»

“I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I want to go for jihad (battle) with you, seeking thereby the Face of Allah and the Hereafter. He said, “Woe to you! Is your mother still alive?” I said, Yes. He said, “Go back and honor her.” Then I approached him from the other side and said: O Messenger of Allah, I want to go for jihad with you, seeking thereby the Face of Allah and the Hereafter. He said, “Woe to you! Is your mother still alive?” I said, Yes. He said, “Go back and honor her.” Then I approached him from in front and said, O Messenger of Allah, I want to go for jihad with you, seeking thereby the Face of Allah and the Hereafter. He said, “Woe to you! Is your mother still alive?” I said, Yes. He said, “Go back and honor her (lit. stay by her feet), for there is Paradise.”

The duty to protect women and look after them is a matter not only for the individual but is a matter of responsibility for the Khilafah (Caliphate) and the Amir of the Muslims. As we can see in the absence and vacuum of true, powerful Islamic leadership that serves only the worship of Allah (swt) in accordance with the Quran and Sunnah, we see how evil and humiliation dominate the lives of our dear, pure sisters.

Their situation in Gaza is a horrific attack on their personalities psychologically and physically. The enemies of Islam know well that hygiene matters are sensitive to believers, and they deliberately use these tactics of stopping water for wudu, bathroom etiquette and personal welfare to add disgrace upon the followers of the Sunnah of Mohammad (saw). We must prioritise the revival of Islam with the establishment of the Khilafah, and this must not be placed second to any other matter. Indeed, it is the most urgent need of our time as servants of Allah (swt).
