True Independence Lies in Rejecting Man-Made Systems and Implementing the System Revealed by Allah (swt)

In his message for Pakistan’s Independence Day, 14 August, the President of Pakistan said, “I urge my fellow countrymen to work for the welfare and uplift of deprived sections of our society. Let’s pledge to uphold the principles of democracy, freedom, equality, tolerance, forgiveness, socio-economic justice, and moral and ethical values, as enunciated by Islam.”

Comment:

When the Western colonialist powers started giving independence to the Muslim states one by one, after destroying the Khilafah (Caliphate), they made sure that they kept the people of these freed countries, and especially the influential class, as their mental slaves. Mental slavery means that a people takes thoughts, values and the viewpoint about life from other peoples.

On 14 August, 1947, our forefathers achieved nominal independence after making unprecedented sacrifices. However, until today we have not been able to get rid of the educational, economic, political, and judicial laws and policies imposed by colonialism and its international order based on nation-states. Even today, our rulers turn to the same colonialist forces to solve our problems.

The West and the Western-founded global institutions are controlling our economy, politics, judiciary, education and foreign policy only because we have accepted their imposed system. The result of accepting the supremacy of the system imposed by the West is that our rulers have neither the power to make independent decisions in economic matters, nor in political matters. They are neither allowed to make laws that the West does not allow, nor to adopt an educational curriculum that the West does not accept. These rulers can neither implement the policy of Islam in foreign affairs, nor can they follow the Islamic command to liberate the occupied lands. Now the mental slavery has reached the point that Islamic sanctities, including the honor of the Prophet (saw) are attacked, yet these rulers do not take any step that would anger their masters.

In order to achieve true independence, we have to reject all the thoughts, laws, policies and systems of life presented by the human mind regarding the collective life in society. We must work to implement the thoughts, laws, policies and systems of life revealed by Allah (swt) by establishing the Khilafah on the Method of Prophethood, to restore the Islamic way of life. It will be the Khilafah that will liberate our economy from capitalism and colonialism, politics from democracy and dictatorship, the judiciary from Western legislature, education from Western liberal freedoms and foreign policy from colonialist interests. It will establish a state and world order based on the guidance of Allah (swt). Allah (swt) said,

[قُلْ إِنَّ هُدَى اللهِ هُوَ الْهُدَىَ وَأُمِرْنَا لِنُسْلِمَ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ]

“Say, Surely Allah’s guidance is the only true guidance. We have been commanded to submit ourselves to the Lord of the entire universe.” [TMQ Surah Al-Anaam 6:71].
