I’ve Become a Racist

News:

On September 5th, the New York Times issued an article with the title: “I’ve Become a Racist: Migrant Wave Unleashes Danish Tensions Over Identity”, raising a question whether “the country has a latent racial hostility at its core.”

Two days later on September 7th, a Danish paper indirectly answered the question with a story about apartheid-like segregation in a well-known Danish high school.

Comment:

The head master of a well-known high school in Denmark’s second largest city has divided the new students on basis of ethnicity. The result is four out of seven classes only with students with a “non-western” background (read Muslim) and the last three with a 50/50 divide.

The new apartheid-like segregation also gets support from the Danish Minister of Integration, Inger Stoejbjerg. It is a question of Danish students naturally should be in a class where you can have a completely normal Danish youth life with all it entails, she argues and continues: “Danish youth life, that contains a social life, is just different.”

Denmark has for a long time sought to weed out those“who have weaker capabilities for being able to integrate into Danish society”, as stated in the latest report from the Ministry of Integration.

Last year, Denmark placed ads in Arabic-language newspapers stressing its tough new policies, essentially suggesting: Don’t come here.

Muslims do not assimilate as easily as Europeans or some Asians, said Denmark’s Culture Minister, Bertel Haarder, partly because, as he put it, their patriarchal culture frowns on women working outside the home and often constrains freedom of speech.

“It’s not racism to be aware of the difference — it’s stupid not to be aware,” Mr. Haarder said. “We do them a blessing by being very clear and outspoken as to what kind of country they have come to, what are our basic values.

The fact of the matter is, that Denmark does have, not only a latent, but a very potent racial hostility at its very core. As always, in a society that claims to be based on freedoms, equality and tolerance, arguments for- and defense of such policies become awkward and often expose contradictions and hypocrisy; and this case is no exception.

All the manipulative, low and unjustified criticism of Islam as an intolerant and black ideology, that flow in these times, completely cover that one of the most black and intolerant periods of European history, seemingly is about to repeat itself…
