28 Rajab – Remembrance of the Fall of Khilafah (Caliphate) Is Not for Grievance, but as a Momentum to Push for Her Re-Establishment
On Monday 28th Rajab 1342 Hijri (3rd March 1924), the world was stunned by the news that Mustafa Kamal had officially abolished the Islamic State (Khilafah) and replaced it with a secular Turkish republic. On the same night Sultan Abdul Majid II, the last Caliph of the Ummah, was forced to pack his belongings and was driven out of Turkey the next morning. It is in this way that the Daulah Islamiyyah (Islamic State) which had sheltered the world for 1342 years met its end; a state whose existence was pioneered by the Prophet (saw) and his Companions (ra) with their lives, bloods and tears. On the 28th of Rajab, the Daulah Islamiyyah which was first established by the Prophet (saw) based on Revelation, had collapsed; the institution that acts to spread the light and mercy of Allah (swt) to the whole world, had disappeared. On the 28th of Rajab, the Muslims had lost the shield that had safeguarded and protected them, and they had lost the institution which had put them at their highest dignity. It is from this loss that the Islamic Ummah begins to face countless sufferings and miseries; Muslim bloods are shed everywhere, and the earth has never been dry from their bloods and tears.
Remembrance of 28 Rajab is not an anniversary ‘celebration’ of the fall of the Khilafah (Caliphate) but is a reminder to Muslims that on that date, the Islamic political umbrella, a Da’wah carrying institution and a mercy to the world, had disappeared. Commemoration of 28 Rajab is also not intended to lament the fall of Khilafah, but to remind the whole Muslim Ummah of their obligation to re-establish this Ummah-unifying political institution that had made them the best nation ever been created for the mankind. Hizb ut Tahrir reminds the Muslims of this date because we do not wish to prolong the grief and pain suffered by this Ummah of Muhammad (saw) and we want to awaken and raise this Ummah from lethargy and neglect. We have to show to the Kuffar-enemies of Islam that Muslims are one Ummah and this Ummah is alive. This Ummah will rise and reunite to defeat them, as it had defeated them before when the Khilafah prevailed. Indeed, history will surely repeat itself, and we will surely defeat them once again with the establishment of the second Khilafah Rashidah, by will of Allah (swt).
O Muslims! The Khilafah had vanished 97 years ago. We desire not to forever grieve over this loss, in fact we are required to never keep silent and give up. Indeed, we are obliged to seriously work to ensure her return. We yearn to rewrite the history of the world by restoring this great political institution of Islam. Every Muslim is obliged to work to re-establish the Khilafah by following the footsteps of the Prophet (saw) and his Companions (ra) who have surrendered and sacrificed their lives in the path of Allah (swt) to establish the Islamic State of Madinah in order to implement the Deen of Allah (swt) in its entirety. Allah (swt) obliges every Muslim to implement His Law wholly and there is no other way to realize this except with the establishment of an Islamic State (Khilafah).
Hizb ut Tahrir is fully aware that the works to re-establish the Khilafah requires a deep sincerity and immense sacrifice of every Da'wah carrier. We have to endure the thorns along the way of Da’wah the same way our predecessors had experienced. This struggle requires the sacrifice of every Muslim's time, property and even lives. However, the heavy burden of working to re-establish the Khilafah will certainly be lighter if this noble endeavour is carried out together. Therefore, Hizb ut Tahrir calls upon you O Muslims! Rush to carry out this noble work of re-establishing the Khilafah Rashidah that will restore our glory and restore the shield and unity of all Muslims under one ruling system. Act swiftly to fulfil this noble struggle O Muslims! Do remember that our victory in re-establishing the Khilafah is not a dream nor is it a fantasy, rather, it is a promise that had been articulated by our Prophet (saw),
«ثُمَّ تَكُونُ خِلَافَةً عَلَى مِنْهَاجِ النُّبُوَّةِ»
“...then there will be a Khilafah on the method of the Prophethood” [Narrated by Ahmad].
