After two lesbian members of an association affiliated with the American University of Beirut (AUBMC), under the guise and name "Women Integrated Sexual Health Program (WISH) at AUBMC," visited a girls' high school in Tripoli, in coordination with the Ministry of Education; they then blatantly and shamelessly promoted obscenity and displayed obscene images and content to students, parents were prompted to report the incident to the school administration, which in turn stated that the two had come to the school at the behest of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education!
Without further explanation or much talk about what these people have done in terms of obscenity, and even after the attempts of the parties involved in the matter to evade and make excuses that are worse than the crime, we demand that the concerned parties take strict, serious and public measures regarding the matter, and these parties are:
- Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, whose presidency and government include the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, represented by Minister Rima Karami, called for her to be suspended from her duties and summoned for review and accountability, even to the point of dismissal, if any connection to the ministry is proven.
- The Lebanese Ministry of Interior should suspend the operations of this association and summon its management and the two employees who worked to spread immorality among our girls, shamelessly and without fear of accountability, as if they were hiding behind a legal cover in the very foundation of this association. It is necessary, indeed obligatory, to hold accountable those who use the means and methods to spread immorality.
- The Tripoli and North Lebanon Education Department, to which the school in question belongs, is requested to investigate the incident, disavow this heinous act, and clarify by what right anyone has the right to be alone with the students. The very act of requesting to be alone with the students raises suspicion and doubt.
- The American University of Beirut, which must summon the relevant authority in charge of these associations to the University Affairs Department of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and take the necessary action if its involvement in the matter is proven.
- The Dar AlFatwa in general, and the Dar AlFatwa of Tripoli in particular, to officially review what happened and file legal claims where necessary, under the title of spreading obscenity and using indecent means and methods.
- Even if this matter is exposed in the relevant school, who knows what will happen next? Some may conceal it, whether with good or bad intentions. Therefore, decisive action must be taken to eradicate these acts before they occur, rather than simply evading the matter after it occurs and attempting to remedy it for fear of accountability and the wrath of those who are jealous for their religion and honor.
We, in the Media Office of Hizb ut Tahrir in Wilayah Lebanon, strongly warn against the consequences of ignoring this matter. We call on families, sheikhs, teachers, and all those fighting the advocates of LGBTQ and feminism to take effective and strong action. This should not be merely statements of clarification and apology, but rather public enforcement measures against these associations and their continued operation and existence. After previous US administrations exported these associations to our country, the current administration ostracized them and began to restrict their activities. However, the corrupt merchandise they exported continues to spread like a malignant cancer in our country. Therefore, the relevant authorities must take strict measures against those who committed this heinous act and against the originators of these malicious associations.
“Say, ‘My Lord has only forbidden open and secret indecencies, sinfulness, unjust aggression, associating ˹others˺ with Allah ˹in worship˺—a practice He has never authorized—and attributing to Allah what you do not know.’” [Al-A’raf 7:33]
