Issuance of UN Resolution that Palestine is only the West Bank and the Gaza Strip: Is that Condolence with Echoes of Lament or a Celebration of a Courageous Stand?

  • Published in Hizb ut Tahrir
  •   |

Last night a resolution was issued by the United Nations General Assembly declaring Palestine a non-member observer state on its borders maximum up to the 4th of June 1967: "the West Bank and the Gaza Strip." The resolution was celebrated by the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, especially by the Fateh Party, hailed by Mahmoud Abbas and Saeb Arekat as a celebration for Palestine and a historic day. It was endorsed by Hamas in the Gaza Strip as Khalid Meshaal and Ismail Haniyeh felicitated Abbas' effort! That resolution, which eliminates Palestine of 1948 forever as told by Abbas, was regarded by the people as a championed and manifested victory! Had the resolution been imposed on them, we would have said that they are compelled but they pursued it to be issued, humiliating them. Rather the two archenemies, Fateh and Hamas, joined with one another with this evil in which they had never allied on any good in the past! Allah (swt) has truly said:

(( أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَتَكُونَ لَهُمْ قُلُوبٌ يَعْقِلُونَ بِهَا أَوْ آذَانٌ يَسْمَعُونَ بِهَا فَإِنَّهَا لَا تَعْمَى الْأَبْصَارُ وَلَكِنْ تَعْمَى الْقُلُوبُ الَّتِي فِي الصُّدُورِ))

"Have they not travelled through the land, and have they hearts wherewith to understand and ears wherewith to hear? Verily, it is not the eyes that grow blind, but it is the hearts which are in the breasts that grow blind"

Perhaps concepts have upturned; values have reversed with the majority of Palestine being sold cheaply to the Jews, but for a price -- a tiny part of Palestine to be named a Non-Member State on paper. Such an act is being celebrated as wedding instead of being a condolence and a deep painful wound!

May Allah bless the Prince of Poets Shawki who, commenting on what Mustafa Kemal did nearly ninety years ago when he abolished the illuminated Islamic Khilafah "Caliphate" and replaced it with the dark secular republic considering that as a victory had said,

"عادَت أَغاني العُرسِ رَجعَ نُواحِ وَنُعيـــتِ بَينَ مَعالِمِ الأَفــراحِ"

"The wedding songs have become the echo of lamentation and the death is announced at the times of weddings"

They take steps as such, celebrate our tragedies, humiliate themselves and pursue to obtain an international legal resolution as the non-member state of Palestine. Is it not the one that was conquered by Omar (may Allah be pleased with him), was liberated by Salahuddin (may Allah's mercy be upon him) and safeguarded by Khalifah Abdul Hamid (may Allah's mercy be upon him)?? As if it is not the same Palestine which they want, rather it is only a fraction. And through this resolution it was done! In order to give access to the traitors of the Ummah portraying this resolution as a victory! America which was behind many of those who voted in favor of resolution showed its opposition to the resolution in order to provide the term "defense" to Abbas and Arekat that they attended the United Nations General Assembly despite the will of America! They know they are liars. If America orders them to sit down, they sit motionless, but America desired an international resolution ending any project except the two-state project being sponsored by the US! Thus the betrayal, deception, and misinformation became mangled together, thereby enabling the way for international resolution to declare the loss of the majority of Palestine to be championed as victory! The Messenger of Allah (saw) in the Hadeeth, narrated by Ibn Majah from Abu Hurayrah, spoke the truth when he (saw) said:

"A time will come upon people when they will employ deceit in everything. At that time the liars will be declared as the Truthful and the Truthful will be condemned as liars. The traitor will be regarded as upright while the upright will be regarded as betrayer; The "Ruwaibadha" will represent (lead) the people." It was asked who the "Ruwaibadha" were? He (saw) said: "They were the incompetent, unscrupulous and insignificant people. They will attend to the important matters pertaining to the public and make decisions."

Nevertheless, we say to these people who wanted to "dwarf" Palestine through international resolutions as well as to those who usurped Turkey from the Islamic Khilafah "Caliphate" becoming a secular country... we say to all of them that the Khilafah "Caliphate" and Palestine have a great Ummah who will no longer be harmed by its illegitimate sons... The Khilafah "Caliphate" and Palestine have a sincere and faithful party, InshaAllah. Hizb ut Tahrir has vowed, with and alongside the Ummah, to restore these two great aims: to reestablish Khilafah "Caliphate" and liberate Palestine, InshaAllah. As the sincere and truthful Prophet (saw) has given glad tidings of their restoration when he (saw) said, "ثُمَّ تَكُونُ خِلَافَةٌ عَلَى مِنْهَاجِ النُّبُوَّة" "then the Khilafah "Caliphate" will return on the method of Prophethood" as reported by Ahmad and Attayalsi and the Messenger (saw) also said: "لَتُقَاتِلُنَّ الْيَهُودَ، فَلَتَقْتُلُنَّهُمْ" "You will fight against the Jews and you will kill them" reported by Imam Muslim.

"And on that Day, the believers (i.e. Muslims) will rejoice * with the help of Allah, He helps whom He wills, and He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful."

Brzezinski: US Must Stop Following Israel "Like a Stupid Mule":

Leading US strategist Zbigniew Brzezinski - unofficial dean of the realist school of American foreign policy experts - has drawn an unflattering picture of US-Israel relations. In a speech to the National Iranian American Council, Brzezinksi said, "I don't think there is an implicit obligation for the United States to follow like a stupid mule whatever the Israelis do. If they decide to start a war, simply on the assumption that we'll automatically be drawn into it, I think it is the obligation of friendship to say, ‘you're not going to be making national decision for us.' I think that the United States has the right to have its own national security policy." By denying any US "obligation" to "follow like a stupid mule whatever the Israelis do," Brzezinski accurately implied that this is exactly what the US has been doing up until now. And by plaintively opining that "the United States has the right to have its own national security policy," the former National Security Adviser underlined the fact that since the assassination of John F. Kennedy, who secretly went to war with Ben Gurion in a doomed effort to abort the Israeli nuclear weapons program, the US has not enjoyed that right. Brzezinski's assertion that the US is being led by the nose like a stupid mule by the Israelis is perhaps the most candid statement of its kind ever uttered in public by a high-level US strategist. Brzezinski's remarks reflect the mainstreaming of the arguments presented by leading US political scientists Walt and Mearsheimer in their book The Israel Lobby.

Egypt Endorses Dodgy Constitution with Islamic Dressing:

Egypt's Islamist-run assembly has backed a draft constitution, including a measure keeping sharia, or Islamic law, as the main source of legislation. The draft will now be sent to President Mohammed Morsi, who is expected to call a referendum on the issue. The move comes after the constitutional court said it would rule on Sunday whether to dissolve the assembly. Egypt's judiciary is in a stand-off with the president after he granted himself sweeping new powers. Egypt has been gripped by protests since the decree was issued last week - more demonstrations are planned for later on Friday. Mr. Morsi says his decree should only apply for as short a time as possible. Liberal, left-wing and Christian members of the constitutional assembly boycotted the vote, accusing the Islamists of trying to impose their vision. The assembly backed all the 234 articles of the draft after a marathon session that began on Thursday and continued through the night. Its aim was clearly to pre-empt any challenge by the courts, which are in a confrontation with Mr. Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood which backs him, says the BBC's Jon Leyne in Cairo. According to Egyptian state TV, the articles passed stipulate that Islam is the religion of the state, and the principles of sharia are the "main source of legislation". This is unchanged from the previous constitution under Hosni Mubarak, who was toppled as president last year. Salafists and some members of the Muslim Brotherhood failed to have "principles" replaced by "rules". The draft also says that Christianity and Judaism will be the "main source of legislation" for Egyptian Christians and Jews, state TV reported. The assembly also adopted a new article that al-Azhar mosque and university, authorities on Sunni Muslim jurisprudence, must be consulted on "matters related to sharia". The president will be limited to two four-year terms of office.

Palestinians Win UN Vote for a Non-Existent State:

The Palestinians won an overwhelming diplomatic victory at the UN on Thursday after 138 out of 193 member states voted to upgrade their status at the global body, sending one of the strongest signals yet in favour of an independent Palestinian state. Speaking before the vote at the UN General Assembly, Mahmoud Abbas, the veteran Palestinian leader, described the resolution as the "birth certificate" of the Palestinian state. He said Palestine was in "desperate need of peace" and insisted that the UN move was intended "to launch a final serious attempt to achieve peace" with Israel. The resolution will raise the status of the Palestinian delegation from a non-member observer "entity" to that of a non-member observer "state". It falls short of full UN membership and most analysts say it is unlikely to affect the balance of power between Israel and the Palestinians in the near future. Palestinian officials argue, however, that the upgrade will allow them to join other UN agencies as well as the International Criminal Court - a prospect that has alarmed Israel and that may give the Palestinians greater political leverage. They hope that Thursday's vote will bolster their position in negotiations with Israel and strengthen the increasingly fragile political position of Mr. Abbas himself. One of the few positive surprises for Israel came in the form of an abstention vote from Britain, where popular opinion is seen as particularly supportive of the Palestinian cause. Thursday's vote was timed to coincide with the 65th anniversary of the historic UN vote to partition British-ruled Palestine into a Jewish and an Arab state.

Panetta: Post-2014 Afghan Effort to be Substantial:

The U.S. intends to wage a counterterrorism campaign inside Afghanistan even after the main U.S. combat force leaves in 2014 in order to prevent al-Qaida from fulfilling its ambition to re-establish a sanctuary there, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Thursday. Panetta told a Pentagon news conference that the U.S. should have an "enduring presence" in Afghanistan to pursue the counterterrorism effort, and to train and advise Afghan forces. Panetta said al-Qaida poses a continuing challenge in Afghanistan, even though it currently has only an estimated 100 fighters in the country and has suffered many setbacks since the U.S-led invasion in 2001. "The fact is that they continue to show up," Panetta said, adding that intelligence indicates that they are looking for ways to strengthen their position and influence in Afghanistan. Last week Panetta said al-Qaida and affiliated terrorist groups in Pakistan see the rugged reaches of northeastern Afghanistan - especially the provinces of Kunar and Nuristan - as a viable safe haven. He vowed not to permit them to regain that sanctuary. In his remarks Thursday, Panetta would not say how many American troops he thinks will be needed to conduct the counterterrorism mission - nor did he mention a time period. He said the size of the counterterrorism force is now under discussion. The U.S. currently has about 66,000 troops in Afghanistan. The Obama administration is considering how many should remain after 2014, with some officials favoring a figure of about 10,000.

Comment on the News Obama's Talk of Human Rights is a Hollow Lie to the Muslim Rohingyas who are Forced to Flee Myanmar for their Lives

  • Published in News & Comment
  •   |

On Monday, 19 November 2012, Obama made a historic, first-ever for a serving U.S. president, visit to Myanmar where he praised the country's move towards democracy and promised more US investment. He even chose to use the name Myanmar, which is diplomatically controversial to the US who officially does not recognize the former military government's name change from Burma. From the tone of Obama's speech at Myanmar's University of Yangon, which was full of references to human rights and freedom, and the need to "live together in peace" and "the right of all people to live free from fear", some might expect that things will improve for the Muslim Rohingyas, who endure expulsion from their homes and murder in Myanmar. Indeed, Obama did make explicit mention of the Rohingya: "And the Rohingya hold themselves - hold within themselves the same dignity as you do, and I do" and perhaps he had them in mind when he said: "There are refugees and displaced peoples in camps where hope is still something that lies on the distant horizon." He continued, in the next paragraph, saying: "the United States of America is with you, including those who have been forgotten, those who are dispossessed, those who are ostracized, those who are poor."

The question therefore arises, if Obama was so full of praise for the changes in President Thein Sein's government of Myanmar that led to this historic visit, and that of Hillary Clinton in December 2011, and the relaxing of sanctions on Myanmar, then how is it that there are people in Myanmar for whom, "hope is still something that lies on the distant horizon" nearly a whole year after Clinton's first visit. These hopeless people are the Muslims, who were stripped of citizenship and property rights in 1982 and have endured savage oppression that has led to thousands killed and 100,000 homeless. Brad Adams, Asia Director at Human Rights Watch has blamed the government for human rights abuses: "Burmese security forces failed to protect the Arakan and Rohingya from each other and then unleashed a campaign of violence and mass roundups against the Rohingya." Human Rights Watch has also said: "The government claims it is committed to ending ethnic strife and abuse, but recent events in Arakan State demonstrate that state-sponsored persecution and discrimination persist."

Whatever it was then, that greatly pleased Obama? It wasn't any improvement in the condition of the Muslims in Myanmar. They did not receive any human rights, they did not attain citizenship and barely any recognition of their existence, only death and expulsion. Therefore, in order to understand what did change and what Obama is really talking about, we should ignore the text of his fawning speech and look for ourselves at the most significant changes taking place on the ground in Myanmar.

If Obama's visit was historic then Coca-Cola and Pepsi-Cola preceded him in making history. After a break of six decades, America's relaxing of trade sanctions allowed Coca Cola to start shipping its carbonated drinks into Myanmar. Coca Cola plans to invest $100 million over the next 3 years and PepsiCo. announced last month that they will follow Coca Cola into this virgin marketplace. MasterCard and Visa have also made deals with local banks so that their credit cards can be used. U.S. energy companies, ConocoPhillips and Chevron, are sniffing around for an opportunity to get their hands on a share of the 140 million barrels of oil reserves and 11.4 trillion cubic feet of gas that are up for grabs.

The lifting of EU and US sanctions this year, while the burning and expulsion of the Muslim Rohingyas was in full swing, coincided with the so-called "democratic" reforms of Myanmar's government to clarify and relax restriction on foreign investment and trade in the country. On the 4th November President Thein Sein signed the Foreign Investment Law, which was first passed in draft form by Parliament in September, but underwent several amendments to make it more attractive to foreign capital. It is this "reforming" law, and the events related to it, rather than greater human rights, that better explains America's well studied softening toward Myanmar. In particular we note that:

The finalization of this law saw the World Bank pledging $80 million and the European Union's Commission Chief, José Manuel Barroso, visiting Myanmar to tell Thein Sein that the EU would deliver $100 million in development aid.

Again, that same day, the global accountancy firm KPMG set up a division in Myanmar; the CEO of KPMG in Thailand said, "Myanmar is the second largest country in Southeast Asia, and literally at the center of opportunity in the region. Investors are flocking to the country and are excited about the possibilities they are finding."

PricewaterhouseCoopers followed suit the following week; PwC Singapore's Executive Chairman Designate explained his company's interest, "Since the opening up of its economy at the beginning of this year, we have seen growing interest from both Asian and Western corporations and we expect an increasing stream of foreign direct investment."

Obama claimed during his speech that, "Above all, I came here because of America's belief in human dignity."

This is a blatant lie. The U.S. ranked 9th in the foreign investment line-up in March 2012, with investments worth only $243.49 million, accounting for just 0.6% of the total, and it is now playing "catch-up" but it is not alone.

Two European heads of state were in Myanmar for the 4th November signing of the "Foreign Investment Code" and the opening of their new embassies ready for business. Norwegian Prime Minister Stoltenberg said, "Norwegian companies can now invest in Myanmar as the economic sanctions against Myanmar have been lifted."

Danish Prime Minister Schmidt said, "A new chapter has been opened between Myanmar & Denmark to strengthen bilateral friendship."
That same day the Swiss also opened an embassy, but they only sent their Foreign Minister, and today, 21st November 2012, New Zealand's Prime Minister John Key arrived in Myanmar for another historic first visit of a Western head of state, but he at least was more honest than Obama about his intentions, "There's lots of opportunities: it's arable land, a big population [about 60 million] and it is going to get wealthy over time ... If you roll the clock forward ten years time, most of the leaders I talk to around the region think it will be an increasingly important market."

The International Monetary Fund sent a mission team to Myanmar that began its work the day after Thein Sein signed the Foreign Investment Code and they have delivered a press release (No. 12/453) today, 21st November 2012, to mark the conclusion of their visit tomorrow.
"Myanmar has embarked on a historic set of reforms to modernize and open up its economy. ... The government has made rapid strides over the last two years. ... Discussions on clearing Myanmar's external arrears are also progressing. ...These reforms are already bearing fruit. Growth is expected to accelerate to around 6¼ percent in FY2012/13, bolstered by foreign investment in natural resources and exports of commodities."

So, the race is on for a share in the spoils. The people of Myanmar will be able to buy America's sugared carbonated water in abundance for more than the cost of the unrefined oil and gas that will be pumped out, and when the ensuing property boom sends house prices and inflation skyrocketing, its people, Buddhists and Muslims, will be priced out, and when the bubble bursts, the Western venture capitalists will evaporate with Myanmar's wealth, and if the Muslim Rohingyas have not been all expelled, or locked up in UN-run refugee camps, then they may prove convenient scapegoats again. One thing is sure, America, and the democracies that trail, are not moved by human rights, as they falsely claim, it is only plunder they seek.

Obama also said during his speech at the University of Yangon, "I've come to keep my promise, and extend the hand of friendship. America now has an ambassador in Rangoon, sanctions have been eased, and we will help rebuild an economy that can offer opportunities for its people and serve as an engine of growth for the world. ''

It seems a heavy burden for a poor country, to have to carry all your rich Western democracies on its back. But the sad part is that the poor Muslims in Myanmar are the ones paying the price, May Allah (swt) help the Muslims in Myanmar.

O Muslims, you are without the Khilafah "Caliphate" like the orphans on the villains dining table (America, and the infidel West and East), your reality will not be better and your blood will not be protected, and your wealth will not be kept safely, and you Deen will not governs, without the return of the Khilafah "Caliphate", the shield that protects Islam and Muslims, we call upon you to work with Hizb ut Tahrir and be from the ones who aid this Deen.

(يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنْ تَنْصُرُوا اللَّهَ يَنْصُرْكُمْ وَيُثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَكُمْ)

(O you who believe! If you help Allah, He will help you and make firm your feet)
