Press Release
Whose Interests Are Served by the Government's Decision to Reopen the Adre Border Crossing while People in Fashir are Dying of Hunger?!
(Translated)
The Sudanese government announced on Tuesday that it would extend the opening of the Adre border crossing with Chad for humanitarian aid organizations until the end of this year. The Foreign Ministry issued a statement stating that this measure reaffirms the government's commitment to ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches those in need throughout the country, and demonstrates its good will in facilitating humanitarian operations.
The Adre border crossing is considered one of the most vital and important crossings between Sudan and Chad. Although the government had accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of using the crossing as a supply route for military equipment and for smuggling weapons under the guise of humanitarian aid, it continued to extend the authorization for the crossing to remain open every three months, starting in August 2023 and culminating with this latest extension. This was done under significant pressure from the United States, which sought to keep the crossing open to ensure a continuous supply line for the RSF. The government had also accused unnamed countries and international organizations of using the Adre crossing to transport military equipment and fuel to the RSF. Harith Idris, Sudan's representative to the United Nations, revealed that approximately 25 military vehicles and eight trucks carrying military equipment entered Sudan through the crossing on May 26, 2023, under the guise of humanitarian aid. He also reported that eight trucks carrying military equipment for the RSF entered the city of Geneina via the same crossing on June 2, 2023. These, along with other evidence, were presented by the head of the mission to the Security Council.
This reality confirms that the United States, along with its proxies within the UN and elsewhere, are using the guise of humanitarian aid to strengthen the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), so that they can consolidate their control over all of Darfur, paving the way for its secession. This is the same scenario that was used in the secession of South Sudan, when weapons were smuggled to the rebels through supposedly humanitarian aid shipments. What is strange, however, is the government's behavior; it knows all of this, yet it submits to US pressure and opens this vital crossing point! Furthermore, this so-called humanitarian aid does not reach those who are in dire need of it. So, whose interests does the government serve by opening the Adre crossing when the people of Fashir are dying of starvation and cholera due to the suffocating siege imposed by the RSF on Fashir and the surrounding IDP camps for over a year now?
The government's duty is to thwart this nefarious American plot, which aims to separate Darfur from Sudan, as happened previously with South Sudan. It must not submit to the dictates of the oppressive, the kafir (disbelieving) powers, especially the United States. The government must work diligently to lift the siege of Fashir and liberate every inch of Sudanese territory from the rebels, as it is capable of doing so.
Our people in Sudan have a religious duty to hold these rulers accountable, to guide them towards the right path, and to strive for change by working diligently to restore Islamic life through establishing a Khilafah (Caliphate) based on the method of the Prophethood which will thwart the conspiracies of the disbelievers and prevent those who seek to undermine the unity of our country. As the Almighty says:
[يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَجِيبُوا للهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمْ لِمَا يُحْيِيكُمْ]
“O believers! Respond to Allah and His Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life.” [Al-Anfal 8:24].
